Using Social Media to Drive Sales for Small Business

Recently I had the opportunity to speak at Social Media Jungle: Boston hosted by Jeff Pulver.  The topic of my presentation was how brick and mortar businesses can use social media to drive sales.

    I’m often asked by small business owners how they can utilize social media to increase sales. I then explain how they should be thinking, instead, about how to build a large community of followers – current and potential customers – and use social media to server their needs.

    In the end they get the concept and buy into the idea, but for many the issue becomes available resources. To that end, I suggest they blog in addition to maintaining a website. The reality of Twitter is that it takes far more time than most busy entrepreneurs have.

    Great video Justin. Although we haven’t shifted quite as dramatically from traditional media as you have with Carminito, ours has been pretty significant as well with equally inspiring results.

    I think you’ve really got something with your HELP(s) acronym and should definitely spend some time developing it further.

    On another note – so psyched you guys are opening for lunches! Maybe we can do a bit of cross-promotion. I always have customers looking for a good place to eat!

    Thanks for sharing your presentation! It was terrific to hear a brick and mortar Small Business Owner and Social Media Ninja give real life examples of using social media to grow your business. High value and High impact.

    L must be the most popular letter in your HELP acronym! In addition to “Learning” and Deirdre's “Listen”, I would also like to add “Leverage”. I think the ability to leverage what you do across the social web is one of the most important and powerful aspects to social media!
