Holiday Recipe Resources

Anyone that knows me knows that I’m a huge foodie. I guess that’s what you would expect out of a restauranteur, huh? Because of this, the holiday season is my favorite time of the year. It’s a chance to have traditional dishes while an opportunity to experiment with new recipes. Whenever I’m itching for a new recipe, I have a quick list of resources that I turn to.

As we head into the holiday season many of us will be gathering together with friends, family and colleagues. So, I thought that I would share just a few of my favorite resources:

Serious Eats

FoodGawker

Food Network

AllRecipes.com

Epicurious

FoodBuzz

Besides these resources, there are thousands of food blogs out there, many of which you can find through FoodGawker and FoodBuzz. Also, several of these resources also have iPhone and iPad apps available.

Additionally, I’ve spent the past year or so gathering a list of 275+ recipes over on Delicious that you can also search through and also have a food blog (which has been woefully neglected lately), Prime Cuts.

Do you have a favorite food blog that you find as a great resource? Add them below in the comments so the rest of us can go check it out.

Oh, and these resources are great for any other time of the year too.

Get Your Chipotle On – iPhone Style!

Ok, anyone that follows me on Twitter knows that I have a slight obsession with chips & salsa.  It doesn’t end there though.  I’m ALWAYS down for a little Mexican.  One of my favorite places to grab good, fast Mexican is Chipotle Mexican Grill.  They make your food to order and right in front of you allowing you to customize your taco, burrito or salad as you go.

Separately from my obsession with Mexican food, I had been waiting for an iPhone app to come out that would allow you to complete the ENTIRE ordering process for a restaurant from your phone.  You see, I want to be able to take care of everything on my phone, walk in, grab my bag o’ food and walk out.  There have been a couple of apps that have come out, but none of them were for restaurants that I tend to go to.  No help there.

Enter the Chipotle Mexican Grill iPhone app.

The app is location-based so grant it permission and it will find the closest Chipotle to you.  You can view their entire menu, including pictures of the food.  You can place an order and pay for it (securely, of course).  All from your iPhone.  For those of us (ahem, pointing a finger at myself) that tend to be frequent customers, you can even make an entire purchase a “favorite”.  So, the next time you have a craving, all you have to do is load up your favorite order, pay and you’re off to the races.  Of course, you have to sign up for an account for it to remember all of that, but hey, what DON’T you have to sign up for an account with nowadays.

This isn’t the first time the app was released.  Back in January Chipotle apparently tried releasing this app into the wild.  It did so well that the app couldn’t handle it so it had to be taken down, the process refined and now it’s back.

Have you tried this app yet?  What are your thoughts about completing an entire food order from your phone?  I’m curious to hear your thoughts…

FriendFeed is Like Salsa

salsaOk, so I’m weird.  I have an obsession with chips and salsa.  I seriously could eat it all the time and be perfectly happy with it.  So, while thinking about some great salsa I had a couple days ago interspersed with thinking about social media, I came up with a conclusion.  FriendFeed is like salsa.  How you may ask?

friendfeedWell, it’s actually quite a simple explanation.  The reason why salsa is so great is because it generally starts with the same few basic ingredients: tomatao, onion, jalapeno, cilantro, etc.  From those basic ingredients, and with the addition of others, you can create many different forms of salsa.  Everyone has their own variations.  That’s how FriendFeed isn’t it?  You start with all the same basic ingredients: Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, RSS or your other favorite services.  From those basic ingredients you create your own variations of FriendFeed.  That’s what so great about the service, it is a different experience for everyone that uses it.  Kinda like salsa.  Salsa is always different, even if you buy the same brand more than once.

See, told you it was a simple explanation.

Do you like salsa as much as I do?  See the connection that I’m making here?  What are your thoughts?
