A Day to Be Thankful

For the first several years of my life, I didn’t celebrate any holidays, including Thanksgiving, since I was raised a Jehovah’s Witness. After a few unfortunate events, we left and, as a result, began celebrating holidays. There was one catch though: we were poor. Growing up below the poverty line meant that our Thanksgiving meal was either a pre-cooked delivery or we went somewhere that was serving dinner to those less fortunate.

Life has changed quite a bit since then and for that I will be forever thankful. Today is a reminder of where I came from and what I am fortunate enough to enjoy now. Instead of traveling to a shelter for dinner, we are in Connecticut celebrating at my in-laws house with 15 people making their way over for an amazing dinner with all of the fixings. The house will be filled with laughter, love, a little yelling at the football games and another year of memories will be made today.

There are so many things to be thankful and while this is not an exhaustive list, they are among the most important to me:

I am thankful for my wife, Laura, who loves me and supports my crazy schedule.

I am thankful for Sasha and Darren, who bring so much laughter and love to our lives. Even thinking about Sasha tackling me when we walk back in the house after a week away makes me smile.

I am thankful for my family, some of whom have made the right but difficult decisions to support me.

I am thankful to the lessons I learned from my mom and my step-dad. Though I wish they were still here to celebrate, I am thankful for the years that I had with them.

I am thankful for my friends and mentors, whose friendship and guidance is always helpful and to whom I will forever be indebted to.

I am thankful for every person who has ever taken a minute to read anything I have ever written.

I am thankful to work at Citrix and to our customers, shareholders and the colleagues that I get an opportunity to work with.

I am thankful for the opportunity to interact with and learn from you.

Even if you don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, take a moment to be thankful for those in your life that support and love you.

To those in the USA, Happy Thanksgiving!
